Best Provider: Connexin

When I moved into my new OFNL-connected development, I was initially overwhelmed by the choice of providers without any context. It’s why I created this website.

These days, I use Connexin (with their 900/180 Mbps package) - here are the reasons why I think they’re the best choice.

High-End Router Included

It’s hard to overstate how important a good router is to ensure you get the speed you pay for. I’ve helped several neighbours replace their low-quality routers with appropriate ones when they weren’t getting their advertised speeds.

Connexin packages come with a free router, which supports all the features you’d expect, but also just … works really well? Setting it up with their “Connexin SmartHome” app was a breeze; the router settings are controlled through the same app rather than a janky website (as with my previous router). Connexin can also provide a mesh network that is similarly integrated with their app.

It’s comforting to know that this will come out of the box, representing a significant value and peace of mind.

Straightforward Packages

In a market where some providers offer an overwhelming number of near-identical options, Connexin’s straightforward package lineup is a breath of fresh air.

As a premium provider, Connexin doesn’t offer ultra-low speed options, instead focusing on three options in the mid- to high-end. I’m using their 900 Mbps offering because I want the best and fastest, but any of their options would be a good choice. The 500 Mbps package is great for families and multi-room entertainment; the 200 Mbps package is great for everyday essentials.

It’s comforting knowing that our broadband will never be the reason for interrupted work calls or buffering movie nights.

“Connexin SmartHome” app

Connexin offer a free mobile app for managing your network and the devices connected to it. It shows how much data is used by different devices, lets you create ad-hoc guest networks, and has parental control features, like temporarily disabling Wi-Fi or setting time limits for individual devices.

The app also lets you control a network security feature called “ProtectIQ”, which helps protect your devices from various online threats, including malware and ransomware. Since this runs on the router, its protection also covers smart home devices like baby monitors or video doorbells that are often poorly secured.

A Serious Company

Connexin is a fast-growing company based in Hull that has been building fibre infrastructure for more than a decade, in addition to offering OFNL services. They have a modern website and online account management tool that doesn’t make you feel stuck in the early 2000s.

The account setup process has been simple, and I haven’t had to engage with support. I hope I never have a reason to, but I’m sure it would be a great experience - they’ve won an award for their customer service, their TrustPilot ratings are high, and reviewers repeatedly mention Connexin’s amazing customer service.

If you live in an OFNL development, I believe Connexin represents the best combination of performance, value, and convenience. They can’t pay me to say this: I’ve had nothing but a positive experience with them and happily recommend them to my neighbours.
